Birds Nest Foundation has partnered with The United States of Food to promote the Ground Up Campaign. Our valiant effort to promote the real food revolution is advanced by educating Americans about food, land and innovative products for growing food and by publishing novel food information to stimulate discussions in the family and community. We will provide complete growing beds that simplify and beautify the real food growing process.
The Goals of the Ground Up Campaign are:
- To provide the most cost-effective system possible for students to appreciate the life process of food—from seed to table.
- To allow this vital learning experience to take place during the school year; unfortunately, most school garden projects bloom in between frosts, when the student population is absent.
- To provide urban schools with the same opportunities as more affluent or rural schools, by bringing the plants (herbs, vegetables, legumes) to the classroom.
- To make this an affordable and attractive part of the curriculum for any school. We have seen too many schools charged thousands of dollars for less-effective, basic gardens.
The Academic Garden kit includes:
- An attractive waist-high (for kids, hand/eye height) raised bed garden with 8” of soil space (size and lumber type vary depending on cost)
- Our unique mixture of perfect organic gardening soil and accompanying organic nutrients to last for six months
- A trellis for climbing plants
- An affordable grow light (i.e., an indoor sun) and accompanying hardware for easy attachment
- Optional seeds or young plants, depending on the school’s request
